St. Louis is one of our favorite places to visit for a quick weekend trip! Home of the Gateway Arch and the St. Louis Cardinals, there is so much to do and see! Here I’m compiling tips and places to visit from several weekend trips I have taken here.
Where to Stay
I have stayed in both an Airbnb and a hotel when visiting St. Louis and it really just depends on what accommodations you want and how many people you are traveling with. We stayed at this adorable Airbnb when we went with a group of friends. It was perfect for cooking dinner and eating on the patio instead of eating out at a restaurant! I definitely recommend staying at an Airbnb if you want more of a local feel during your trip, and if you have a large group of people as most Airbnb can accommodate 5-10 people. When it was just my husband and I traveling to St. Louis, we stayed at the Marriott St. Louis Grand. This hotel is the definition of luxury! Situated in the middle of downtown, walking distance from several restaurants, I would definitely recommend it!
What to Do
St. Louis has so many fun activities, a lot of which are reasonably priced for all my frugal gals out there! Here are some of my favorites:
Flowers are my love language and spending the afternoon strolling through a whole garden of them makes my soul so happy! Tickets are $12 per person and you can easily spend the whole day here, just make sure you wear comfortable shoes! Another thing I love about the botanical gardens is the Dale Chihuly pieces on display! If you aren’t familiar with his artwork, I highly recommend doing a little research and admiring his pieces at the Missouri Botanical Garden.
If you are looking for a fun, free activity – this is it! The St. Louis Zoo is free and covers 90 acres with over 600 species of animals. When we went it was over 100 degrees out and we still had so much fun. (Pro tip: if you visit when it’s the temperature is that hot, hang out in the penguin exhibit. Trust me on this one!)
The City Museum in St. Louis is sure to bring out the child in anyone! The City Museum, housed in an old shoe factory, is a playground made from hundreds of unique items. Both indoors and outdoors, this is an activity you can enjoy regardless of the weather. Admission is just $14 and you’ll want to wear close-toed shoes and bring a flash light!
Citygarden is located right downtown and features unique sculptures. Free to guests, this is a fun place to stop at along the way. Some of the sculptures make for fun photo ops!
If you are ever in St. Louis you have to stop by the Gateway Arch, even if just for a quick photo! This iconic monument overlooks the Mississippi River. Tickets to ride to the top are only $13 and they also have combo packages that include a river cruise. I’ve never done the river cruise but it’s definitely on my list!
These are just a few of the many activities in St. Louis!
Where to Eat
Every time I go to St. Louis I have to eat at Fitz’s Root Beer! Located in the Delmar Loop, this is a great place to spend a few hours browsing the shops and grabbing lunch. Their gourmet floats are SO delicious!
If you visit the City Museum or stay downtown, be sure to check out Bailey’s Range! Their menu of modern burgers are all made from scratch and their ice cream is to die for (you all know how much I love ice cream!).
You won’t regret making time to stop here, even if you just pop in for a single scoop of ice cream!
