Hi there!! Happy Monday! I hope you all are having a lovely week (and not melting in this summer heat). I’ve had a lot of you reach out to me for tips on editing photos for the blog, Instagram and Pinterest. While I wouldn’t say I’m an expert, I do have my list of go-to photo editing apps for creating cohesive content for my blog! Here are my 5 favorite photo editing apps that I think every blogger should be using!
This photo editing app is one of my go-to’s if I have a photo that needs more than just a filter or a little increase in exposure. Snapseed has a great curve feature to use to change the layers of the colors, shadows and highlights within the image. Snapseed also has the selection tool which allows you to select a portion of the photo and isolate your adjustment of the exposure, contrast and brightness. This is extremely helpful when editing photos if you want to bring the brightness or contrast up on only one section of the photo!
This is my go-to photo editing app for every photo I post to Instagram! One thing that’s really popular right now in the blogging community is creating a consistent look and feel to your Instagram feed and the filters on VSCO help you create that theme. I personally use the A6 preset and adjust each image from there to match the rest of my feed.
A Color Story
I use this photo editing app mainly for planning out my Instagram feed! It allows you to view the photos you have recently posted, along with photos you have planned. This might not be important to everyone, but for bloggers and those building a personal brand, this is a helpful little tool! I also love the Color Story presets, but I usually only use them when I want the colors in my photo to really POP.
I love Canva for creating graphics for my blog posts and Pinterest! Creative graphics are key for driving reach and engagement on Pinterest and Canva makes it SO easy. Seriously, they have tons of templates that are so easy to customize! Canva is also a great resource for designing your media kit for your blog.
This is another app I use for design purposes, mainly Instagram stories. They also have so many templates (it would take you HOURS to look through them all) for everything from Insta stories to info-graphics.
For each of these photo editing apps I only use the free versions, although for each of them there are upgrades and in-app purchases. When it comes to actually editing my photos, I prefer subtle edits that brighten the overall photo. This creates that cohesive look on my Instagram and blog. Here are a few examples of my before and afters!
For this image I used Snapseed curves to brighten it, and then applied the A6 preset from VSCO (I toned down the preset quite a bit on this image so it wouldn’t be washed out). This image was taken with an Iphone 7 plus.
For this image I only used the A6 preset from VSCO and increased the exposure just a tad. This photo was taken with a Canon Rebel T6.
For this photo I added the A6 preset from VSCO and then used the selective tool in Snapseed to increase the contrast on the Hand Salve jar because the preset washed out some of the details. This photo was taken with a Canon Rebel T6.
I applied the A6 preset from VSCO and used the selective tool from Snapseed to increase the brightness of the face on my watch so the brand would stand out more. This photo was taken with a Canon Rebel T6.
For this image I used the A6 VSCO preset (can you tell it’s my fave?) and increased the exposure and contrast just a little bit. This photo was taken with a Canon Rebel T6.
These two instagram stories were created with the Over app. The images were shot on my iPhone 7 and edited with the A6 VSCO preset.
I love sharing these blogging tips with you and I would love to hear your feedback below! Let me know if you have any questions about editing photos for the blog or social media, or if you have any other blogging or marketing topics you would like to hear about!
